Hola, ¿Qué tal? Soy Lido. I came to the United Kingdom from another island, Cuba, far away in the Caribbean, several generations after my ancestors embarked on a long journey in the opposite direction, immigrating to Cuba from the Canary Islands. On my way here, I have explored so many places! I used to live in Canada, and before that, in Mexico. When I was a kid, I lived in Zimbabwe for a while too. I have visited many countries in Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. Asia is next!

I love teaching as much as I love learning. There is nothing better than sharing knowledge and curiosity because they lead to… more knowledge and new experiences! I have been teaching Spanish as a second language, as well as courses in literature, culture, and theatre since completing my degree in Hispanic language and literature. I completed a Masters in Translation at El Colegio de México and a PhD in Hispanic Studies at McGill University. That means I have been around a classroom either as a teacher or as a student for quite some time. I am currently a researcher at the University of Nottingham, where I continue to learn about Hispanic arts and cultures while experimenting with some fun art installations.

I am passionate about performing arts and technology, so I often bring them to my classes as fantastic resources to enhance the learning experience for all age groups and abilities. I adopt a student-centred approach that encourages teamwork and learners’ social skills. Whether you or your kids are taking first steps as total beginners, or you want to improve your already awesome Spanish skills to write some romantic poetry, you can certainly do it while discovering amazing cultural secrets, making new friends and having fun. What are you waiting for? ¡Ven a nuestra clase!
